Galaxy Brass players are experienced musicians with musical training in different styles and with various professional and semi-professional qualifications amongst them.

Maeve Lander – Trumpet

Maeve is an experienced musician and trumpeter, having played in many orchestral, jazz & wind ensembles and as a soloist. Career highlights include attending Perth Modern School on a music scholarship, and playing with the Australian Army Band Perth.  Maeve composes and arranges for Galaxy Brass.

Heather Legge – Trumpet

Heather is Galaxy Brass’ exciting new talent, having joined the group this year. As a vibrant young musician (ask us about her Ukulele party piece), Heather certainly brings character to the ensemble!

Karen Motta – Horn

Karen began playing the French Horn over 10 years ago and has played in a variety of ensembles including the West Australian Youth Orchestra. She also loves a good sing-a-long and has sung with both local and interstate choirs.

Sam Lander – Trombone

Sam has played trombone for more than 8 years in a wide variety of ensembles. A talented and versitile young musician, Sam has won a number of state awards for his trombone and piano solo performances. He’s also a keen singer, and currently performs with Voyces – one of Perth’s elite choral ensembles.

Wafi Zainal – Tuba

Wafi started his music training as a Trombone and a Euphonium player, with the intent of becoming a professional musician. In 2007 Wafi was trained on Bb tuba under the brass band tradition and was accepted at WAAPA in 2008 on Classical Tuba where he now studies. You could say Wafi is mad for brass! He plays with many bands around Perth including (but not limited to!) City of Perth Band, Canning City Brass Band, WA Brass (Midland Brick Brass) Band and Junkadelic!
