About Us
Galaxy Brass has six members, all from Perth WA. All are experienced musicians with musical training in different styles and with various professional and semi-professional qualfications amongst them. The ensemble is directed by Maeve Lander.
Maeve Lander
Maeve has played the trumpet for 12 years. She started her classical music training as a scholarship music student at Perth Modern School, and has played in many ensembles since that time including as an orchestral trumpeter, jazz lead, in concert band brass sections and as a soloist. Maeve composes and arranges for Galaxy Brass, and currently plays in the Australian Army Band Perth.
David Willis
Started trumpet in the Gingin Bindoon concert band - yep that's right! Graduated from Eastern Hills senior high and currently studies Music Education at UWA. A keen player, David is a regular face at 10 ensembles around Perth!
Emma Norton
Also a graduate of the scholarship music program at Perth Modern School, Emma has performed at state level and overseas as a choral scholar and horn player in many orchestral and chamber ensembles. Her particular love is the classical repetoire, especially when the horn isn't just playing oom-pah!
Sam Lander
Sam has played for more than 8 years as lead trombone in a wide variety of ensembles. A talented and versitile young musician, Sam has won a number of state awards for his trombone and piano solo performances in classical and jazz styles, as well as for his choral work.
Wafi Zainal
Wafi started his music training as a Trombone and a Euphonium player, with the intent of becoming a professional musician. In 2007 Wafi was trained on Bb tuba under the brass band tradition and was accepted at WAAPA in 2008 on Classical Tuba. Wafi currently plays with the City of Perth Band, and has been involved with Canning City Brass Band, WA Brass (Midland Brick Brass) Band and a few other organisations.
